I used these tire chains just once to get up a paved, hilly road with a sheet of ice on it.I was driving about 5-10 MPH and made it up the hill just fine.However, I was pretty surprised to see that one of the cross cables had snapped with just this one incredibly brief use.The broken chain is now useless.(I had to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up for the next few days until the ice melted). I would not trust these tire chains and would strongly discourage anyone from buying them.The tire chains do come with a one year warranty, but I bought them years ago and only needed them this one time.For an item such as tire chains, a one year warranty doesn't seem to make much sense.I wish that I could have rated these tire chains with zero stars.

Security Chain Company Super Z6 SZ115, Cable Chain for Passenger Cars, Pickups & SUVs - Set of 2 Review

The virtues:
These are lightweight and compact cable chains, strong and effective enough to get you going. If you're already stuck in snow, you don't have to worry about having to lay out the chains and drive onto them. Just lay 'em flat and link the two segments together at the bottom back of the tire. Bring the two segments up and link them together at the top. Hook on the tensioner and drive away.
The drawbacks:
In real-world conditions (it's cold, it's snowing, it's probably dark) putting these on without preparation isn't fun. You kneel in snow and get your legs wet. Your hands get cold and wet and numb, and it becomes hard to mate the links on the back side of the tire. Just when you're close to done and your strength is giving out, you've got to stretch the rubber tensioner rings onto the chain.
So, practice putting them on under agreeable conditions so you know what you're in for. Stow a waterproof mat to kneel on. Put some packs of chemical hand warmers in the chains' carry bag.
And a hint: you'll be tempted to hook the link pins into the matching holes in a straight line. They won't go. Fit the pin into the slot at a 90-degree angle and turn it straight.
I've got a set of these for each vehicle. I've used 'em four times and never been stranded.

Great product at a great price. I used them extensively in northwest Texas over the X-mas holiday 2009. I drove my F-250 past twenty-two miles of traffic at a standstill on US 287 South between Electra and Jolle. Whst a difference the chains made. I spent X-mas eve night stuck behind semis in an ice blizzard. Awesome chains got me through. Most of those stranded spent another night on the road (or near it).

Thule 9mm CG9 Premium Passenger Car Snow Chain, Size 102 (Sold in pairs) Review

I have used these chains for 2 seasons and have driven hundreds of miles on them. I love them and will never use another chain. They are quick and easy to attach. I am frequently in and out of the "chain-up area" before other drivers have even straightened out their chains. The low profile, 9mm chain links make for comfortable driving even at higher speeds.

I use them on a 2008 Subaru Impreza Outback. The owner's manual for this car says to never use chains or cables because they may interfere with the anti-lock brakes and steering mechanisms. This is apparently typical for smaller sports cars. But the state police won't always let me up the pass without chains installed, despite AWD and all-weather tires. I took the chains and the car to the Subaru dealership, had them put the car on a lift and install the chains. The dealership said they were fine and would not interfere with sensitive parts. I have been using these chains without issue, and after 2 seasons they show minimal wear. I fully expect to use them for 2 more seasons. I have not experienced the cable problem another reviewer had.

Thule 12mm XG12 Premium SUV/Cross Over Snow Chain, Size 240 (Sold in pairs) Review

The fit of these was very tight.The tires needed to be warmed up first and even then, the plastic tabs that stop the chains from touching the tires come off very easy.These where very expensive compared to other chains.I don't think I would buy them again.I would go with cheap pair or pairs and still pay less than half of what I did for these.I will say that once on, they work well.

My car has 255/35r19 rear tires so this seemed like the right (albeit EXPENSIVE) choice.Upon using for the first time last weekend a pin holding a chain link to a plate popped out thus rendering the chain useless. As a result we were stuck in the mountain for THREE HOURS waiting for a flatbed tow.As soon as I put the chains on (which BTW have terrible terse instructions), I wasn't beaming with confidence as the chains didn't seat at the center of the wide tires.The following might be a better alternative: Security Chain Super Z6, SZ143.

Thule XG12 Pro 267 Deluxe Snow Chain Model 267 Review

I almost didn't buy these chains because of the price, but I decided to drop the cash and give them a try.What a brilliant decision!

They install so easily and with the auto-tensioner, there's no more pulling some black circular rubber band thing and trying to hook it in 5 places along the chain.You hook the chains around the tire, slip the auto-tensioner piece through the hole until there is no slack and drive.

Taking off the chains is just as easy.

I feel sorry for the saps on the side of the road struggling with their chains, then end up paying some chain installer to help them out.

Security Chain Company QG0219 Quik Grip Garden Tractor and Snow Blower Tire Traction Chain - Set of 2 Review

The product would be great except for one thing; the picture shows the portions of the chain that go over the tread all evenly spaced and at regular intervals.But that's not the case where the links connect when installing the chains.It's like there's one missing there.I ended buying a bit more chain locally and adding it to the assembly.In my view, it should have been there from the start.

With that change, it worked just fine on my snow-thrower.

Thule 12mm CB12 High Quality Passenger Car Snow Chain, Size 090 (Sold in pairs) Review

I don't have any complaints about these chains, and I am one to easily complaint about product flaws.Very easy to install, although the first part of the rachet-system takes a second to comprehend. They seem to fit my tires very very well (185/65-14), snugger than other chains I've tried. These are super compact--about the size of three dinner plantes stacked together. Italian made, so Chinese-made product quality isn't an issue. These also meet "S" low-profile standards; I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX. Very happy.

Security Chain Company Super Z6, SZ143, Cable Chain for Passenger Cars, Pickups & SUVs - Set of 2 Review

My first time using these was great. Record snow storm in So Cal mountains required cables and i never lost traction and only took about 3 minutes each wheel to install. Once your experienced- allow 2 min/per wheel. The split design that allows you to install them without driving onto them is perfect. Removal only takes about 1-2 min/per wheel. I ended up having to drive on them for 3 miles on bare roads without any problems or signs of wear. I also was able to plow through 2 feet of packed snow in a Honda minivan. Update- for rims that bulge out in the middle, the tighteners may rub on it leaving a mark. It just depends on your wheel style.

I'm a rural carrier.I have driven through 100 miles, up and down the hills on theback roads, with 4 inches of snow on the roads with these on without a problem.Learn to put them on before it starts to get bad.I've gotten to where I can put on all four in 30 minutes.Just remember not to go too over 30 to 35 mph with them on.Otherwise you'll tear them, and your tires, up.

Security Chain Company SC1038 Radial Chain Cable Traction Tire Chain - Set of 2 Review

So I got some of these from the local Napa, They were great. Paid 2x what Amazon charges. They are amazing in snow. I drive a low provile BMW 3 series. It cannot handle 3 inches of snow on my street tires. With these chains I was pushing thru ice and 8 inches of snow like it was the race track. Only problem I had with them is even stay under 30mph on bare road, they wore out rather quickly. I need these to get in and out of the side streets I live on, but the main roads are generally clear. They did last about 5 weeks of daily use, then they pretty much fell apart. After you lose 1 link, you might as well junk em, as the rest will go rather shortly. I'm buying my second set now. At this price I'll buy em every 5 weeks if I have to. (BTW i'm a Cali boy, and i got moved to Eire, PA so you can an idea of my problem)
