I bought my Flex 2 Jacket 3 weeks ago before embarking upon (and passing) the MSF motorcycle safety course and subsequently purchasing my Triumph Speed Triple :)This jacket is enormously flexible - it has 3 layers:
1) A removable waterproof, bulletproof Carbolex outer jacket
2) A mid-layer mesh jacket holding the armour
3) An inner quilted layer for warmth.
The outer jacket has a wind & water-proof flap covering the neck to waist front zipper. Pockets are made from a waterproof plastic fabric to keep your phone and wallet dry. The arms of outer shell also come with 3 poppers & a short strap allowing you to prevent the arms of the jacket from flapping in the wind. Phoslite reflective piping along the arms and across the shoulders works well to illuminate the rider in the headlights of following traffic. Adjustable waist-belts allow the jacket to be fitted snugly to the rider and reduce back-draft!! The shoulders of the jacket also have zippered-vents allowing considerable air-flow to stop you overheating, keeping your fresh and dry.
The middle layer consists of a removable mesh jacket which houses the CE shoulder & elbow & forearm armor. The back of the mesh jacket also houses a replaceable foam back protector - a nice touch missing from many jackets costing considerably more! The mesh jacket also includes several inside-pockets for phone, Zune/iPod, etc. Because the mesh jacket houses all armor, it can be worn without the outer shell in hot weather should you be willing to forego the additional protection that the outer jacket provides.
There is also an inner removable quilted liner that fits inside the mesh jacket to provide an additional layer of protection from the cold.
I wore this jacket home from the store on my bike up the highway with all 3 layers attached, in 60 degree weather and was VERY hot by the time I got home some 20 mins later. I think the inner quilted liner will provide considerable warmth in the coming colder months.
Over the last 2 weeks, I've worn this jacket daily (without the quilted liner, so far) in temps ranging from 55 - 80 degrees, in blazing sunshine and pouring rain on slow residential streets and wide-open freeways. The jacket is very comfortable and is sufficiently well vented, stopping me from getting too hot regardless of my speed & the weather conditions. It also feels very strong, giving me a good sense of safety.
