TOURMASTER/CORTECH SYNERGY GLOVE BLACK Review

I ride in Toronto, Ontario, figured a heated gear item will add 20% to my season.
I bought the tourmaster Synergy Glove and Jacket (for easy connection)..
Ofcousre the jacket puts an INCREDIBLE amount of heat, I found the gloves to be really nice on 'Medium' while temperature was around 6c (low 40's F), When it was down to 2 degrees (that is mid 30's) I put the jacket and Glove on 'High', the hand was OK, but the thumps specially right one were really cold.
I tried the next day and added a small cheap woolish glove liner and that seemed to work fine for a short ride (will add a review later for long rides).

Let me just state, two things..
1 - I am the guy with cold hands, I mean I wear heavy heavy skii gloves when riding in low 50's so these gloves were less bulky and very very comfortable in the low 40's and mid 30s was very impressive.
2 - This is my first heated gear so I have no point of reference other than that my cold numb hands are a thing of the past and I am happy.

Synergy Jacket, Vest and Pant Liners

TOURMASTER/CORTECH EPIC MOTORCYCLE JACKET HI-VISIBILITY YELLOW Review

Not only were these jackets not designed properly, Tourmaster's vaunted customer service is failing too.

The jacket has a vent on each sleeve. The bottom of that vent is not sealed. The result is that it acts exactly like a funnel to channel all the water on the outside of the sleeve inside the sleeve. In other words, the "waterproof" jacket is anything but.

Sending the jacket back to Tourmaster has also been an interesting challenge. They tested the jacket, decided that it did, indeed, leak, and proceeded to issue a replacement, or so the story goes. At this point, I've been without a jacket for four weeks because "they are replacing so many of these that they can't get them out fast enough."

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that the zipper holding the hoodie broke the first time I used it.

I'd go elsewhere for a jacket.

The Airflow gloves seem pretty solid, heavier protection than I thought I was getting, and the price was great.The airflow to my hands is decent, less than I thought I would get, but acceptable.I got a size large after using the sizing chart, though I usually wear medium, and these were very tight out of the box, but are just right after a break in period.Pretty decent product.

Shoei Hornet DS Helmet - 4X-Large/Black Review

It's everything I looked for.Great fit, Very nice face shield, seals great, has high quality feel and several detents for partially open, etc.Visor is a touch shorter than a full off road MX style helmet, which is good at road speeds.Up to 60 mph or so...buffeting is not bad.Faster, I would say be careful.Any visor is gonna start to pull your head around as the wind picks up...but yes...visor is worth having, really blocks the low sun morning/eve.Fogging is very minimal except when I rode a few times at 35 degrees out, even then, only when stopped.

For Dual Sport riders, this is a great helmet. I hated to pay 400 bucks for it but did and am very glad.The cheekpads are removable and for 40 bucks, you can get thinner/thicker ones for a PERFECT feel.

What pushed me over the edge to buy was the feel, specifically...large ear pockets inside this helmet=NO crushed ears.I hate that!

The only real quality competitor to this model is the Arai XD, which is also a very nice helmet, fit, etc. BUT...visor is longer and I bet grabs more air=more wind buffeting on the street. For buzzing around town either would be good though. I did try both the Shoei and Arai on, then settled on the Shoei becuase of price and the shorter visor.A bonus I did not expect but got with this, is MUCH more peripheral vision than any of my street helmets in the past!

Lastly, Simpson makes a helmet of this type but the quality is not up to par.I wanted to buy American but nothing about it matched the Arai or Shoei.Too bad.I used to buy only Simpson.

I saw this same helmet in a local shop going for $130 and was able to pick it up on Amazon for $68 plus shipping.The helmet looks good, is pretty comfortable, would like a tinted face shield though instead of clear one.Good helmet for the money.

Tour Master Synergy Heated Vest Liner with Collar - One size fits most/Smoke Review

The vest is truly awsome.I got the vest with the collar for Christmas. It literally took five minutes to connect the wiring to the battery. I wore it under an insulated coverall and leather jacket (without the insulated lining) with a pair of Tourmaster Winter Elite gloves. The first time it was 33 degrees out and I put the heat control on medium. Riding the GoldWing, running some errands, I started to sweat and had to turn it down to the low setting. Today I rode with the temperature outside 11 degrees F, same gear. Had the temp set on high and stayed toasty for the 8 mile ride to my office. My hands hardly began to feel the cold in spite of riding at 70 mph on the interstate. When the temp was 25 degrees F., same gear, I rode for 35 minutes last week in comfort. I'm thinking about buying the Synergy gloves if this weather stays this cold (8 degrees last night) and I want to ride farther. I don't think I really have the need for the pant liners right now, and they'd be too difficult to remove once at the office. But if I decided to ride farther just for the ride, the pant liners would be a real plus. If the gloves and pant liners work as well as the vest, the only reason to stop riding in the winter is snow and ice. Just haven't figured out how to get those tire chains on quickly, lol.

Tour Master Women's Winter Elite Gloves - 4X-Large/Black Review

Bought these gloves at the end of 2008 - now end of February 2009.
We have had some very cold, early mornings and evenings. These gloves will keep fingers warm for up to an hour for temps at or above 5deg C.
Lower than that, down to zero C, you have about 30 mins.
For wet - they have a great slip out and slip on split finger waterproof mitten - this actually helps keep wind off too.
Excellent soft feel, yet look strong enough to hold up to a slide (heaven forbid). Nice reflectors and adjustors.
Bought them for girlfriend - she loves them.

HJC SYMAX 2 MOTORCYCLE HELMET LIGHT SILVER L LARGE Review

As the title implies, I've owned an HJC Symax helmet since 2003.Now, after over six years and tens of thousands of miles, the lining was wearing in the rear and the strength of the shell starts to become suspect from all the sunshine and heat it has endured.I've been a happy Symax owner, so I was a bit concerned about how I'd like the replacement.

First the fit:The basic fit of the shell seems the same as the original Symax, the peripheral vision seems the same and the clearance between the chin bar and my chin is identical.The new helmet is a bit more snug, but I suspect that's due entirely to the lining in the old one being compressed a bit from years of use.

Ventilation:There is no comparison.The ventilation in the Symax II is light years better than the original.With the top vent open I can actually feel the air going over my head.Nice.The chin bar vent is also more effective, so the combination is just outstanding.

The nifty new feature on the Symax II is the built-in sunshade.It's a great idea, and works reasonably well, but it really misses the mark a bit.While HJC advertises it has three positions (four if you count retracted) the fully extended position is really just for removing and replacing the lens.The primary two operating detents are VERY close together and almost at the fully extended position.It really needs one more position where it can act like the dark band at the top of a car windshield - far enough down to shade the eyes, but not so far down you are actually looking through it.

It's a great helmet, the flip-up chin bar functions flawlessly, the sun shade is a nice add-on and the ventilation is outstanding.All in all a worthy successor to the original Symax.

SPARX FC07 DRIFTER MOTORCYCLE Open-Face-Helmet Review

I bought this helmet two months ago and have enjoyed it on all my local rides.

Fit: I think it fits a little bigger than most other brands.I wear size L on most full-face helmets (Shoei, KBC, HJC, etc.)and open-face Vega helmet.Sparx FC-07's medium size fits me perfectly.

Ventilation: There is definitely plenty of air coming under the shield but it's not uncomfortable or unbearable. When the face shield is completely closed, I see a bit of fog only when I'm stopped at the traffic light but it'll disappear as soon as I start going.Since I don't intend to take my scooter out on the freeway, I cannot comment on the ventication.Frankly, I will only wear full-face helmets on freeways.

Price:Absolutely affordable.

Safety: I was looking for open-face helmet that meets at least 2 safety certification standards.There aren't many to choose from (weighing in the design/price factors too) that are both safe and nice to look at.The under-$100 helmets are mostly just DOT certified, which I don't feel safe wearing.This helmet is both DOT and ECE certified.I feel that it carries more credits on the safety measures.Usually, even if a helmet meets ECE standards, if it is not being sold in Europe, it cannot bear the ECE sticker.This one has the ECE sticker on it.

Style/Design: I was so happy to have found this helmet. It was very challenging to find a nicely designed light color helmet to match a bright-colored scooter.The white/orange/black tone is both elegant and lively.

I will definitely recommend this helmet for surface street riding.

TOURMASTER/CORTECH VENTURE MOTORCYCLE PANTS BLACK SIZE:LRG Review

I purchased a pair of these pants recently and had the unfortunate luck to put them to the test. I was riding along @60mph on the interstate when suddenly everyone was braking. I hit my brakes, the rear wheel locked up, fishtailed, and threw me to the ground. Skidding along the pavement at 60mph, I can tell you that the knee and hip armor absorbed the impact and the rest of the pants stayed together very well, much better than what denim pants would have done. I think the waterproof aspect of these pants may have now been compromised, but that is just the excuse I will use to go ahead and order another pair.
What could have been a terrible accident with a destroyed knee and hips and thighs turned to roadrash hamburger, instead left me with only a slight scraped area on my forearm and a banged up shoulder, but hips and knees and all the walking bits are fine. I know there are more expensive pants out there and maybe they are even more amazing, but these pants saved my precious skin and I am going to buy a replacement pair.

TOURMASTER/CORTECH SONORA AIR MOTORCYCLE JACKET HIGH VISIBILITY YELLOW/BLACK Review

This jacket is everything I expected. The pictures don't do the color justice. Between the hi-vis and the black contrasts, I think it's the perfect balance.

Even though it's mesh, it truly is a 3 season jacket. It comes with a waterproof liner and a quilted liner. Even with the cool New England mornings, I have yet to need the quilted liner. The fit and adjust-ability are top notch. Each arm has two different adjusters and the waist has an adjuster belt on each side.

The 3/4 length takes a little bit of getting used to, especially on a sport bike, but it's not a major issue. The extra length comes in handy though when tucking in.

Overall, I highly recommend this jacket. The quality is top notch, the visibility is unbeatable, great adjust-ability and a great price on top of it all.

My wife likes the jacket, but wishes it had more ventilation.She only rides behind me, so chest vents wouldn't help, and she is a little shorter than me, so I think the scoops on the arms and shoulders get blocked by me, and can't really work like they would if she were driving her own bike.Fit and style are just right; she's 5'4" and about 160 lbs, and the large fits fine, even when we put the liner in to make sure it will fit when it gets colder.I think women who drive will be happy with this product unless it gets really hot out, then you'll want to get more ventilation, maybe mesh.

ARAI XD'3 MOTARD BLACK MOTORCYCLE Off-Road-Helmet Review

I used this helmet to ride my KLR to Alaska and was very pleased with it. It is a bit fragile and adventure riding is tough on equipment. I broke the chin air vent and cracked one of the rear back vents. I would also recommend getting a fog shield of some sort if you are heading for cold weather. Visibility is fantastic and I found it to be fairly quiet (some knock it because it is loud) but you have a huge shield and that just isn't going to be as quiet as a helmet with a narrow eye slot. The shield doesn't pull your head nearly as much as I was lead to believe either. I sold mine when I got back with the bike but I will get another for my next ride.

Cortech DX GLOVES LADIES PINK MED Review

I have about a dozen pairs of gloves and I use these alot. I do hope I never go sliding down the road hands laid out flat with these on...they just arent made for that...they are comfortable, inexpensive and look great...the mediums run a bit large for womans sizes..but thats the only reason why I gave them 4 stars and not 5. They wash up in the machine just fine, my hands get good ventilation and grip on the bike. THEY ARENT leather so DONT buy these if you want safety and durability...if your a girl passenger....dont ride much...they are great. I use mine about every other day or so...because its been hot..and I like to live on the edge with regard to danger...lol
